LO1: How the Digital Revolution Has Influenced My Ideas
As you can see in the timeline of technology above, media technologies has been advancing for a long time. We now have DSLR cameras, speakers, VR, AR, smart phones, robots ect. In this report, I will be explaining what my digital media product idea is and how it solves the gap in the market.
The digital revolution has influenced my media product idea. Technological convergence has been achieved through the use of black box devices; this means we can now access a range of services through just one device such as a smartphone. Using a smartphone you can: call, message, search the internet, take photos using the cameras etc. The development of the web from web 1.0 to 3.0. Web 1.0 is when websites were static, this took place from the years 1991-2004. Web 2.0 is when we could start to interact with the websites and it also interacted with us. We could type comments, post content and the websites were very dynamic. Web 3.0 is the era of the web we are currently in. Websites learn are preferences and gives us recommendations. The Amazon website is a good example of this, the site recommends new products to us depending on what we have viewed before. Web 2.0 is the era I am most interested in. This interactivity paved the way for lots of new interactive digital media products and it has revolutionised the digital realm. I want my media product to include lots of interactivity so the users can use the media product.
My new interactive media product will be created by my company, Ro-boot Technologies. The new HELP-R 5000 robots are going to be used in the public service industry. These robots will revolutionise how we support people and how we run the world. Our HELP-R 5000 robots are uniquely suited to your needs. You can select the following:
Clean the environment and pick up litter
Help signpost the homelessness to shelters, those struggling with mental health and domestic abuse to services and offer them essential information
Patrol the streets and help the police combat crime by live video recording a crime and sending the GPS location to the police. They can also ring emergency services such as an ambulance if somone is severely injured
Can take orders at a restaurant
can help stock shelves or rails in retail and peform stock takes as well as retrieve items from the back that customers would want to try Can also transfer stock to different areas or tidy.
can read human emotion and hold conversations
Will have a screen so we can use the internet (with restrictions)
Have an app for the owners of the robots to control which mode it is on
The robots will be able to update and gain new modes that our company create via the internet. Anti-hack technology will be used to ensure that new modes (especially harmful ones that causes the robot to harm people) cannot be installed for the safety of others.
Inspirations
Previously robots were almost imposssible to create. This means that fictional robots could be a reality one day. WALL-E is a robot film created by Disney. The robot was created by humans (in the movie) to clen up Earth since we polluted it so much. The protectron robots from the Fallout game franchise have multiple modes depending on what the player needs at the time. Baymax is a robot from the Disney movie Big Hero Six. This robot can scan a human, evaluate their pain levels then give them necessary treatment.
Here are some real robots that currently exist. Sophia is a AI robot, she can converse with us and express her opinion. I want my robot to be able to talk to us too and understand human emotions so it can help.
Atlas are robots created by Boston Dynamics. I am inspired by the design of these robots since they can run and jump with ease. I need my robot to be stable since it will be walking around in public.
Target audience
The target audience for the HELP-R 5000 robots are businesses in the public service sector and the government. These companies will fit the explorer psychographics since robotics have not yet been normalised. Robots are still relatively new to us and they are not yet a part of our daily lives. Explorers love to try new, innovative things. I believe they would love these robots since you can select which modes you would like.
What Previous Technologies Will I Integrate To Create My Robot?
To create my robot, I will need to use technological convergence to create a kind of blackbox device in the form of the HELP-R 5000. My robot will have AI to help it understand emotions and respond to people without another input. Speakers will allow us to hear the robot. A small interactive screen will allow us to search the internet, the robot will need to be able to connect to the internet. A call feature will allow the robot to call emergency services if nesessary. Some sort of computer will be needed so the robot can process the environment.
P5: Assess the Ethical, Social and Moral Impact Your Proposal Could Have on Stakeholders In this report, I will be talking about the ethical issues my media product could face. Stakeholders are businesses that will invest in your product idea. In return, the stakeholders will recieve a percentage of the business and money. Robots have been represented in movies and TV. Terminator and Ultron are two examples of robots that are demonised by the media. Many people believe that robots will one day take over the world and go against their programming. As a result of this being shown in the media, our society is wary and frightened of the robotics. Having walking robots will frighten us at first. My HELP-R 5000 robots will have a power off mode on it as well as on the app to make sure it is easy to shut it down if it decides to malfunction. I will make sure that the robot's AI is programmed to be helpful and has some restrictions of topics it can percieve and talk about. Robots a...
P9: Explain How Your Feedback Could Help You Develop Your Product Here you can see the responses I recieved after presenting my HELP-R 5000 robot idea. I created a Google Forms survey so that I could collect their responses after the presentation. Overall, you can see that my feedback is positive. I presented to a few people in my media class who are taking the same course and my teacher. The participants of the survey enjoyed my presentation, they believe my robots are possible in the future and if they were business owners they would buy my product. They also liked my idea but believe it is very ambitious and more suited for future generations and that my presenting was very thorough and presented well. Two out of three responders believed my HELP-R 5000 robots appeal to my target audience of large businesses. To improve my product, the responses say that I could create a smaller version of my robot, I could create a prototype. Another person wrote "It would ...
M3: Justify How New Audiences Can be targeted by the New Product In this report, I will explain how I can use my product to reach lots of different audiences who many be interested in my media product. First of all, this is the proposal for my product: My company (Ro-Boot Technologies) is going to create my interactive media product. The new HELP-R 5000 robots are going to revolutionise how we run the world and how we go about our daily lives. These robots are going to be used primarily in the public service industry. My robot is going to help not only businesses, but also those struggling by walking around public spaces. My robot will have different modes you can select so they are suited to the business’s needs. You can select the following modes (you can choose one or several): Clean the environment and pick up litter. Help signpost the homelessness to shelters, those struggling with mental health and domestic abuse to servic...
