M1: Analyse Developments Within Digital Technologies and the Opportunities Generated
From the Relationships They Have Created Between Industries
In this blog post, I will explain how previous robots have I will use project planning tools to help me plan and develop my media product. I will also explain how my target audience can access my media product.
Here is my project proposal. My company (Ro-Boot Technologies) is going to create my
interactive media product. The new HELP-R 5000 robots are going to
revolutionise how we run the world and how we go about our daily lives. These
robots are going to be used primarily in the public service industry. My robot
is going to help not only businesses, but also those struggling by walking around
public spaces. My robot will have different modes you can select so they are
suited to the business’s needs. You can select the following modes (you can
choose one or several):
- Clean the environment and pick up litter.
- Help signpost the homelessness to
shelters, those struggling with mental health and domestic abuse to
services and offer them essential information.
- Patrol the streets and help the police
combat crime by live video recording a crime and sending the GPS location
to the police. They can also ring emergency services such as an ambulance
if someone is severely injured.
- Can take orders at a restaurant.
- Can help stock shelves or rails in retail
and perform stock takes as well as retrieve items from the back that
customers would want to try. Can also transfer stock to different areas or
tidy.
- Will have a screen so we can use the
internet (with restrictions).
- Anti-hack technology.
- Can direct us using its in built GPS to
wherever we need to go if we get lost.
- Can talk several languages and perform
sign language.

My robot will be able to read human emotions using the AI and
have sensible conversations with us. Along side this robot, I think it would be
a great idea to create a mobile app. This app will allow the owners of the
robot to change several settings. For example, they can change what mode they
would like the robot to be on. You could also power off the robot using your
phone. From the app, you may be able to ask for maintenance services for our
robots.
My HELP-R 5000 robots will be eco-friendly. They will
be created either from recycled or biodegradable materials. I will power the
HELP-R 50000 robots using biomass since this is the main renewable source or
energy and my robots can use this.
Robot Production Process
To create my HELP-R 5000 robot, I will need to use project planning tools. I will need to design how my robot will look like and how it will work. Then, I would create a physical prototype of the robot. This would allow me to optimise the robot to its purpose and make sure it is in working order. Companies use prototypes to showcase the product to potential investors/stakeholders so they can raise money to create the product. Using a prototype, you can create a SWOT analysis. This helps you evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the robot. You can then create multiple prototypes to ensure that the robot is perfect. The final robot will then be created and tested.
Visual Studio Code is a coding tool created by microsoft. This software can highlight any errors in your code and you can use Microsoft Live to collaborate with your team. Globalisation means consuming, distrbuting and producing products on a global scale. VS code and many planning tools are able to do this now since the internet has made way for collaboration. Employees can work in a team wherever they are in the world. Microsoft Azure is an online service that allows you to collaborate with others and save your work to the cloud. This makes it much easier to distribute the work to other employees. This tool can be used to code my robot.
Planning Software
There are lots of different planning tools that you can use for the pre-production process. Pre-production is important since it can help you visualise your product and organise what you need to do in the production stage.
Monday.com is a project planning tool. Using this service, you can create project plans/production schedules for your project. This is a brilliant project management tool since your entire team can see the schedule. Monday.com is a combination of old technologies such as microsoft Excel and the internet.
Microsoft Teams is another project planning tool you can use. This software allows you can create teams for your project. This then allows you to chat with your team using posts and you can use voice an video calls. A production schedule is built into the software and you can also set tasks for your team members to complete. Furthermore, you can share files through Microsoft Teams. This allows everyone to access and collaborate on the files which are on the cloud. You can download these files if you wish.
Development of Planning Tools
Currently, there are lots of pre-production planning tools to choose from thanks to the internet and more advanced technology. The planning softwares I mentioned above use the internet. Microsoft Teams released in 2017 and Monday.com released in 2012 under the name Dapulse. These planning tools are relatively recent.
Before those technologies, companies would use other planning tools such as Microsoft Excel, calandars... The planning tools are not cloud supported and you would need to send your plan through email or on a USB memory stick. However, More recent planning tools have integrated all of these singular programmes into one.
Developing My HELP-R 5000 robot
Robots require a lot of technology to build them. Developments in technology would allow me to use a bio-degradable material for my robot using new nano technology using science. I can integrate AI code into my robot as well as the basic code it needs to perform actions. Robot have mini computers that help them run. I will also need input and output speakers to help them understand us and talk to us. GPS technology is based from compasses. I will integrate GPS technology into my robot. My robot will also need sensors to allow it to read our facial expressions.
Product Distribution
I have decided to target my HELP-R 5000 robots to public
service businesses and government services. Retail, Food industry and government
services such as the police, litter picker etc. I believe that these companies
will fit the explorer psychographics. Robots are still a relatively new technology,
so they have not yet been normalised. Innovative companies that strive to keep
up to date with new technologies are my target audience. Large companies are
more likely to buy my robots since they have a lot of job roles that need filling.
I believe that my robot will be very useful for them. They can choose from many
different modes for the robot which will sound appealing to my target audience.
Distribution refers to how I will get my product to the consumer. I have decided to do direct distribution. This means that my audience will get their robots delivered to them to their establishment. I decided to choose this method because my target audience are businesses in the public sector and the government. These businesses could range from retail to restaurants to charities. I don't want the general public to have access to my robots since they could misuse them. There are not many platforms I can distribute this product since it is not available to the public.
Digitally, I could create my own website for the HELP-R 5000 robots. This website would include what my company (Ro-Boot Technologies) does. What the HELP-R 5000 robot is with a video to showcase what it can do. I will also add a contact page so they can ask any questions. I can add an online shop to this website so businesses can buy their HELP-R 5000 robots. They will need to verify their working ID to make sure they are a legit company.
Another way I can promote and distribute my product is to hold conventions. These can be either online or in the real world. Conventions give businesses the chance to see how the robot works and gain contacts with us if they are interested.
Cloud Storage, Remote Working and Work/Life Balance
As I have mentioned above, the cloud allows us to save our work to the internet. We can use the cloud to collaborate with others, share the files with ease and to prevent the files from taking up too much space on our blackbox devices. This term means that technological convergance took place to create smart devices. Older technologies have converged into one device. Smart phones are a great example of this. Using a phone, you can call, message, listen to the radio and music through the speakers, use the torch, take photos using the in built camera, access websites through the internet etc.
Remote working refers to employees working from home or away from their work place using a blackbox device. There are some great benefits to this. Some companies can exist online without an office, employers can recruit online and workers can work from their own home. Some people may prefer working from home. This allows empoyers to easily get in touch with employers. Even in large businesses with offices, workers can see exactly what they need to do and pick up where you left off last time. Cloud services allow us to work from anywhere and contact anyone when needed.
However in my opinion, this is mainly a negative movement. Cloud services can crash and the sytem could reset, therefore you could loose all of your work. This is why it is important to back up your work. I think planning tools can ruin your work life balance. You may recieve notifications from work when you are not scheduled to work. Your boss and colleagues can contact you outside your work hours and they may asked you to work overtime. This I believe is an invasion of privacy since work should not take over your life. You need to have a healthy work/life balance. Otherwise, employees will have burn out and low morale towards their jobs. Workers may develop mental health difficulties and loose relationships with family, friends and partners. It is vital to have a seperation between your job and the rest of your life to give yourself a break and enjoy life.
To conclude, I have explained how we can use planning tools in the pre-production stage to support the production of products. I have also explained how my HELP-R 5000 robots use media technologies and how I will distribute them to my target audience of businesses.
