P4: Describe How the Proposal Conforms to Meet All Legal and Regulatory Requirements

P4: Describe How the Proposal Conforms to Meet All Legal and Regulatory Requirements

In this blog post, I will be explaining how I will follow the laws and regulations that are put in place by regulatory bodies for my media product. Here is my basic proposal for my media product idea:

My new interactive media product will be created by my company, Ro-boot Technologies. The new HELP-R 5000 robots are going to be used in the public service industry. These robots will revolutionise how we support people and how we run the world. Our HELP-R 5000 robots are uniquely suited to your needs. You can select the following:

  •  Clean the environment and pick up litter
  • Help signpost the homelessness to shelters, those struggling with mental health and domestic abuse to services and offer them essential information
  • Patrol the streets and help the police combat crime by live video recording a crime and sending the GPS location to the police. They can also ring emergency services such as an ambulance if somone is severely injured
  • Can take orders at a restaurant
  • can help stock shelves or rails in retail and peform stock takes as well as retrieve items from the back that customers would want to try Can also transfer stock to different areas or tidy.
  • can read human emotion and hold conversations
  • Will have a screen so we can use the internet (with restrictions)
  • Have an app for the owners of the robots to control whih mode it is on

The robots will be able to update and gain new modes that our company create via the internet. Anti-hack technology will be used to ensure that new modes (especially harmful ones that causes the robot to harm people) cannot be installed for the safety of others.

Laws

Robots are still relatively new. Because of this, there is no official regulatory body that enforces laws for robotics. I believe this will change in the future since robotics will become a more prevalent part of our lives.

GDPR is a law that protects our data. Individuals must consent to having their information collected. This information must be protected and cannot be used for any malicious reasons. The company/data collector must protect this information. Examples of personal information that might be collected are: name, gender, home address, their health documents etc. If a company does not protect this information or it gets leaked, this is a breach of data protection. This is urgent since this personal information can be used to commit identity theft and fraud. The criminal may even be able to access the individual's bank accounts to steal their money. The company will be fined 4% of their annual earnings for DPA/GDPR breach.

For my HELP-R robot 5000, I will need to follow GDPR laws. There are several things I can do to make sure that my robots are following the law and protect user data. I can execute a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) to evaluate the risk the HELP-R 5000 robots have on data protection. This can help me remove risks and minimise them. The robots will talk to individuals and help them find mental health services or whatever service they may need. This is the main risk of GDPR. My company (Ro-boot Technologies) will use this data to send it to the NHS or the required service. We will also use this data to see what robot modes are used more frequently and if there is anything we could improve. We will also use the data to improve our app. We will only take this data and send it if the user consents to it. This could be a verbal recording of them consenting that the robot records or a written signature using the robot screen.

Isaac Asimov created the three laws of robotics in 1942. These laws are basic instructions that they should follow to keep everyone safe. I will be following these laws for my HELP-R 5000 robots. The first law states that robots should not hurt anyone or let them get hurt. This is very important since I do not want my robot to harm anyone or cause them pain. This is illegal in many ways and I this would mean that my robotics company nd the robots would be shut down. The second law states that the robots should follow the orders given by the human owner. This ensures that the robots are used for their purpose and are helpful. The third law states that the robot should protect itself, but make sure it is in line with the other two laws.
